n/a: SLC SSDs don't require TRIM.
^1 Requires a sata-to-pata (stp) adapter.
Eg: DIY solution.
As a comparison, sata-to-pata bridge in optical drive bay adapter measured here found to add 0.8-1W overhead to do the translation.
DIY may be lower since it doesn't need to do 5V to 3.3V voltage regulation.

NotesSome SSDs don't have TRIM support, meaning they rely on garbage collection to maintain write performance.
Use Tony Trim or sdelete to help GC along.
Note too that XP doesn't support TRIM.
Only Vista and Win7 do.
flashfire accelerator increases small file writes on older or Jmicron SSDs.
a US$10-delivered adapter can allow use of a ZIF SSD in a 2.5" sata system.
Seeing ICH8M and ICH7M.
The ZIF PATA interface doesn't provide AHCI's NCQ, so multiple streamed read/writes cannot occur in parallel.
This means that ZIF SSDs work better with a SSD controller optimized for single queuing.
For example, on an sata AHCI interface, Intel X25M G2 has faster 4kb multithreaded read performance than a Indilinx-based SSD, but when using the pata interface (queue=1) the Indilinx SSDs have faster 4kb multithreaded read performance.
Some example Bench here.
If you have a pata optical drive, could also do a DIY: Adding SSD or HDD storage using an optical bay caddy using a 2.5" SATA SSD/HDD.
Can see native sata Intel X18-M, Samsung PB22-J(Corsair Pxxx) and 100/80 SLC and OCZ Vertex performance here.
Please post any new ZIF details/Bench so can be include in the table.
