Studio XPS 8000 Back Panel Connections

First, I should explain that I am as dumb as a box of rocks when it comes to computer nomenclature. I mean, IEEE 1394, eSATA and S/PDIF, VGA yadda, yadda, are Greek to me. Having said that, I've been spending many hours on the Internet trying to match up my DELL Studio XPS 8000 connectors to my LCD TV to hook them together. To make matters worse, it appears my user manual for the PC doesn't totally match the back panel of my tower. I have an IEEE 1394, an eSATA and an S/PDIF on the 8000 and at the very bottom of the panel, I have (reading right to left, the monitor connection, what appears to be a small HDMI connection and finally a 27 pin female connection. These two are not explained either in the manual or on DELL's website. My Vizio LCD has a RGB PC connection for connecting to a PC. Any assistance is appreciated. And, please be gentle.
