Using 3g/4g on Thinkpad

I am wondering how many people their built in gobi/ wimax cards... and if they can use them together...



The reason I ask is that we have 2 t410s and 1 x201 we are thinking about getting our gobi and wimax activated. Can Sprint or Clear activate both of the cards on there as one service? Since they offer 3g/ 4g cards, can they both be activated as one unit and authenticate fine on the network.



Anyone have any experience with this, we are using usb plug ins and I think we are all wanting to switch over to onboard data cards.

Clearwire is Wimax only I think. Sprint can do Evdo and WiMax service. I think maybe it should work, Sprint does sell a laptop that supports this: link



But you'll have to talk to their customer service.

I tried to talk to them and half say it will work the other half have no clue.



I think the issue comes down that the gobi and the wimax are separate devices and that might cause an issue especially if someone gets it hooked up and then they could use two separate laptops to get on the net at the same time.



They really dont have a way to police it.



I would like to take advantage of the internal antenna since I noticed that the wimax is a lot faster when using the built in card.



Has anyone every tried to activate them not under one account?

You can use only one connection at a time - AFAIK, the WiMax runs off the intel 6250 Wifi card and the WWAN runs off the Gobi WWAN. you can't use both connections simultaneously.

That I get... but the issue lies in being able to activate both of the cards under one service plan....



If I have to pay for both of the services separately, it will increase the cost of service.

I see - your service provider will not let you do that because it will hurt his revenues! they will insist separate service plans for both.



For example, I tried asking my service provider if he could give me a duplicate SIM for my phone and my laptop - the idea being I could share the voice/data plan between my laptop and phone. they refused it outright and insisted I get separate sim cards for both devices.

I guess I will just keep my USB data card and see if sprint will let me transfer the service onto my laptop.
