expanding wireless router ports with a switch

I'm currently using all 4 ports of my belkin f5d7234-4 wireless router and need more ports. My wireless router is connected to
my motorola surfboard modem for internet access. I have my laptop, printer, bd player, and hdtv connected to my router.
I'm thinking about getting a new ethernet connectable avr so this would be my 5th port. I only use wireless connection for
smartphone, visitors laptop, and upstairs bd player and like to keep as much things wired as possible. Will a switch work for this? Reading reviews on switches i get conflicting information on this working. I'd like to connect my hdtv, bd player, and possible new avr to this new switch cutting down on cable clutter at the same time. Any advice would be much appreciated and reccomendation on switch if this will work.
