Scan link failed to wired PC

I have an HP Officejet Pro L7780 All-in-One Printer (Model No CBO39A - serial Number MY841850QQ) Bought new 13/11/08.

It is hard wired in to my WIN7 ultimate 64bit PC as is my wife's PC Win7 ultimate 32 bit. Also 2 laptops use the device by WiFi. A maximum of only two devices operate at once.

All functions have worked perfectly after professional installation and setup ever since.

THis is a purely domestic i.e.light useage situation.

Early in January 2011 the scan function to the WIN7 64 bit PC failed.

Both I and my professional contractors (who incidentally have the same model in their office) have carried out all the usual tests and steps, culminating in repeated un-installation and re-installation of the device, un-installation of the HP software suite (downloaded each time) and re-installation, booting and rebooting of the PC.

It still refuses to scan when requested, from the PC HP control centre to the PC.

The professional contractors are beaten. I have found to my horror that HP do not seem interested in helping other than for a fee. This for which when bought was a pricey item not a cheapo and after only a couple of years of very light use.

The extended error information the setup produces is

8,[(1,0,-2147221164)]

Am I doomed to throw out this otherwise excellent piece of expensive kit or does anyone out there have a clue please as to how to solve my problem

Similar failure on (from memory) a HP c4380. I had to return it and get something else.

Maybe there is some firewall in the router but your professional folk should have flipped that off for a test.

Hi Bob,
Too late to complain under warranty now I fear!
The other PC works fine, bring up HP control panel, insert document, scan, all fine, then email from one side of the room to the other (via USA probably!) so I get it on my PC.
What a game.
But do we know router is OK.
Thanks for the thought though!

The router had to be updated, configured, and more for it to work. And to top it off, the XP machine worked and the Windows 7 64 bit didn't. After 4 hours I had enough and packed it up to get something else.
